Y Data Center Overview

The Y Data Center in Johor, Malaysia, was designed to accommodate high-density server operations, necessitating a highly efficient and reliable cooling system. With the increasing demand for data processing, the facility required a closed-loop cooling solution that could maintain stable temperatures while minimizing both water and power consumption, particularly due to the site’s limited water resources.

One of the primary challenges faced was the scarcity of water, which rendered traditional evaporative cooling methods impractical. The client initially favored a V-coil Dry Cooler with adiabatic pads to conserve water. However, this approach proved unsuitable for Malaysia’s hot and humid climate, as it would lead to excessive water consumption, undermining its efficiency goals.

To address these challenges, the engineering team proposed the EVAPCO eco-ATWB-H Series Hybrid Closed Circuit Coolers. This innovative solution was specifically engineered to optimize performance, water efficiency, and energy savings, making it ideal for the unique conditions of the site.

The hybrid system operates in two distinct modes: Dry Mode, which minimizes water usage during cooler ambient conditions, and Evaporative Mode, which activates during peak loads or high temperatures. This dual functionality ensures optimal thermal performance while keeping water consumption to a minimum.

The implementation of this system resulted in a significant reduction in both water and power usage compared to conventional cooling systems. It provided reliable operation tailored to the local climate, supporting sustainable data center operations and enhancing overall resource efficiency.
