Newark Engineering Pte Ltd successfully implemented prefabricated pump skids with Armstrong Vertical In-Line Pumps, embracing cutting-edge DfMA principles. This approach significantly reduced on-site installation time, minimized safety risks, and decreased site congestion while delivering a high-quality, pre-tested pumping solution.
A major commercial terminal development in Singapore required an innovative approach to pump system installation following Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) principles. This construction methodology, championed by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA), represents a “game-changing method of construction that involves construction being des
Newark Engineering worked closely with consultants and contractors during both the design and tender stages to develop a comprehensive prefabricated pump skid solution. The system featured Armstrong Vertical In-Line Pumps mounted on custom-designed skids, with all necessary piping, valves, instrumentation, and controls pre-installed and tested before delivery to the site.
This DfMA approach delivered multiple significant benefits throughout the project lifecycle. The prefabrication of complete pump assemblies in a controlled workshop environment ensured higher quality control, precise alignment, and comprehensive pre-delivery testing. On-site, the installation schedule was dramatically reduced as the fully-assembled skids required only positioning and final connections rather than component-by-component assembly.
From a safety perspective, the prefabricated approach substantially reduced high-risk activities such as working at height, overhead lifting, and confined space work. Site congestion was minimized through reduced manpower requirements and elimination of material staging areas traditionally needed for conventional on-site assembly.
The Armstrong Vertical In-Line Pumps were selected for their compact footprint, ease of maintenance, and energy efficiency, complementing the space-saving advantages of the skid-mounted design. The integrated approach also simplified future maintenan
Through this project, Newark Engineering demonstrated its commitment to embracing innovative construction methodologies that enhance efficiency, quality, and safety while meeting the client’s performance specifications and timeline requirements.
